Computers are amazing tools!
Ironically, however, while there has been tremendous progress in making computers
faster, more powerful, and cheaper . . . many producers of both hardware
and software are dedicated to trying to keep prices from falling as low
as they actually could go.
Even more ironically, while some computer hardware, operating system, and
software producers are endeavoring to make computers easier to use . . .
others seem to be obsessed with continually adding more and more features
and complexity. For some this seems to be
a way of trying to keep prices as high as possible. But some others just seem
to be enamored with creating (and cluttering up) computers with ever-fancier
(and often useless) gadgets, widgets, and showy bells and whistles.
Therefore, in this space we hope to collect and share ideas on how to
Simplify, Streamline, and Optimize
personal computers . . . and get rid of needless fluff, instead focusing
on efficiency and practicality.
Below is a link to a first draft "how-to-do-it" checklist.
The objective is to add many more and continually improve each one.
